School Uniforms and Supplies
Since December 2007 our Foundation has been helping children and families in the Dominican Republic. We came right after Tropical Storm Noel ravaged the country and many were hurt and injured. For years we brought antibiotics and other medicines to a free clinic so they could treat patients and give them powerful prescription medicines at no cost.
In 2008 we started to help improve and expand a slum area school in the most eastern part of the country that had poor Dominicans and Haitians living nearby with no means to afford school for their children. We added two classrooms and helped build a basketball court. We still pay every month for two licensed teachers, give food, clothes, Christmas parties, sports equipment, books, pre-school educational games and uniforms. We also provide immediate needs on each trip, like a new water pump for the well in April 2013.
Starting in 2010 our Foundation has provided eye camps with licensed optometrists and ophthalmologists giving thorough eye exams and free prescription eyeglasses to more than 100 people at a time. Our last camp was in April 2013.
For five years now our Foundation pays for food every week at an orphanage for boys in Higuey. We buy uniforms, books, appliances, electrical wiring, plumbing fixtures, shoes, underwear and clothes, and many other things needed at each visit. We also help put on a Christmas party every year so the children feel loved and wanted at a time being without parents seems especially painful.
